March 15, 2011 Board Meeting Agenda Item #36 Title APPROVAL OF THE CHARTER BETWEEN THE SCHOOL BOARD OF SARASOTA COUNTY, FLORIDA, AND SOUTH COUNTY FAMILY YMCA, SKY ACADEMY Description The application for the South County Family YMCA, Sky Academy, a Charter School, was approved by the School Board of Sarasota County at the November 16, 2010 meeting.  Pursuant to Florida Statues, 1002.33, representatives from South County Family YMCA, Sky Academy and school district staff have negotiated a Charter to serve as the agreement between the organizations.  South County Family YMCA, Sky Academy is scheduled to open in August 2011 as a grade 6 and 7 school and will add grade 8 during the next year.  The negotiated Charter is now complete and ready for Board consideration and approval. Recommendation That the Charter between the School Board of Sarasota County, Florida, and South County Family YMCA, Sky Academy be approved as presented.
